Venue: NLL, Floor 1
Bringing to a close the Year of multimedia artist Hardijs Lediņš (1955–2004), the exhibition "Lediņš. Between this and the other" will be built as two parallel expositions – a survey of Lediņš' creative career and works by contemporary artists, whose approaches to art are reminiscent of Hardijs Lediņš' creative formula.
The title of the exhibition is borrowed from an interview with Lediņš in 1992, where he formulates his zone of creative interests. The notion of border is a convenient way to look at the career of this multimedia artist. Having created most of his works together with collaborators and in each case freely using various artistic media, Lediņš brought to life his idea of each geographical point in the universe being able to generate every possible activity.
The part of the exhibition which is dedicated to Lediņš will include an overview of the artist's oeuvre in text creation, music, architecture, performance and video art, while the other part reveals an indirect presence of his ideas in the works of contemporary authors. Exhibition is both the first opportunity to see the full breadth of Lediņš' work, as well as to map the contemporary relevance of his creative method.
