International cooperation

The international cooperation of the National Library of Latvia supports the priority directions of action outlined in the NLL's development and operational strategy for 2024–2028.

In international cooperation, the NLL relies on the cooperation agreements concluded by the NLL, its membership and obligations in international organisations, as well as collaboration with partners in the fields of culture, education, and science, providing opportunities for the values in the NLL's collection to be discovered and learned to the international community by creating thematic exhibitions and participating in events abroad.

The National Library of Latvia not only supports Latvia's representation and international recognition but also shapes it, while simultaneously providing Latvian residents with the opportunity to get to know the culture and history of other countries.

• The National Library of Latvia cooperates with international library organisations and various types of foreign libraries;
• The National Library of Latvia is open to cooperation with foreign cultural, educational, and scientific institutions;
• Within its competence, the National Library of Latvia organises and participates in international scientific conferences and international book markets;
• The NLL cooperates with foreign representations in Latvia, Latvian representations abroad, foreign media, cultural, educational, and scientific partners, and the Latvian diaspora;
• The NLL encourages addressing conceptual issues at the international level in order to participate in setting the current industry agenda through cooperation of various scales and formats and event organisation.
• The NLL hosts library sector specialists from abroad on Erasmus+ study and job shadowing visits.
