People's Bookshelf
The People's Bookshelf is the heart of the National Library of Latvia and one of the central elements of the building. It currently holds more than 8,000 books in more than 50 languages. These are gifts from people all over the world, each carrying their own story and meaning.
Everyone can donate their book to the People's Bookshelf. The giver is asked to write a message, personal story, memory, or wish on the title page of the book. Every book on this shelf is a personal story that forms a shared cultural memory.

Cloakroom and personal belongings
For collection safety and security reasons, bags of any size and outdoor clothing are not permitted to enter the NLL. They must be left in the locker room or cloakroom on Level 1 of the NLL.
Personal belongings to be taken to the reading rooms (stationery, laptop, mobile phone, wallet, etc.) can be placed in special NLL bags or bags available in the library cloakroom.
The principle of the lockers is simple – you need to leave a 1 EUR coin deposit, which is returned after the locker is used.
