This week, on 22–23 October, the RIXC Art Science Festival will take place in Riga and online, bringing together international artists, researchers and cultural professionals. The festival offers artistic experiments, participatory workshops, discussions, an opening keynote and two exhibitions, which together explore how art and science can expand our climate imagination.

A time to study. A time to relax. A time to experience a night at the Castle of Light! On 13–14 November 2026, the National Library of Latvia (NLL) invites university students and their friends to “Student Night at the NLL”!

Japanese language speaking club activity will take place on 28 October (Wednesday), at 17:30-19:00 in the Baltic Research Centre for East Asian Studies (AsiaRes) Reading Room (Level M) of the National Library of Latvia. The main purpose of this event is to enable students to practice Japanese language in a casual environment, with the help of native speakers and other participants. Participants practice to overcome language barrier through games, conversation and discussion of a large variety of topics.

The National Library of Latvia, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia and the Ministry of Economics, has completed the European Union Recovery and Resilience Facility energy-efficiency project “Solar Park for Self-Consumption Electricity Supply at the National Library of Latvia.”

Celebrating achievements in children’s and young adult literature, the International Jānis Baltvilks Award was presented for the 22nd time on 24 July, the birthday of Jānis Baltvilks.

The NLL has published its Scientific Article Volume 15 (XXXV): “Feminist Perspectives: Archives and the Arts”. This collection of articles highlights the relevance of feminist and gender studies and the application of their methods in Latvian research and institutional practices.

On March 21, the Great Reading Festival – the ceremonial closing event of the 2025 ‘Children, Youth and Parents Jury’ reading promotion programme – took place at the National Library of Latvia. This year, it was held concurrently with the Riga Book Fair, as both initiatives bring books and their readers together.
